While the Night’s Still Young: Indonesia Nightlife Picks

We’re showing you some different ways to enjoy the nightlife in Indonesia. From hot night spots that thump with energy, to speakeasies that ooze laidback charm, there’s something for everyone.

Mr. Fox

A drinking and hangout spot which also organises music shows, Mr Fox in Jakarta provides an incredible selection of rare liquors, as well as innovative cocktails shaken and stirred to perfection by friendly mixologists. Come here and sample unique drinks, like its pletok vodka, inspired by the traditional Indonesian bir pletok,.

The Cocktail Club

This bar in Jakarta came in #12 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2024 list, and it deserves the honours. With its distinguished décor and vibe – think cushy leather armchairs, classic posters, and a curated playlist – and its charming bartenders, make this a stop on late-night outings in Jakarta. The drink menu, with song lyrics and illustrations, is a delight to thumb through. And it’s s extensive and imaginative: think rum punctuated with truffle; a surf and turf martini with beef seasoning distillate and lobster bisque distillate; and even a drink inspired that mixes cincau, an Asian grass jelly drink, and soy milk with rum.

Cantinero

Step right into a Mexican cantina when you drop by this underground joint in Jakarta, where you can throw back tequila-based cocktails to the thrumming beat of Latin music. With its lively atmosphere, its tapas menu, and a its focus on tequila and tropical fruits, it’s an excellent option for a fun outing with friends. Don’t sleep on their food offerings: from tacos brimming with fillings like beef tongue, mushrooms or pork belly to a mean beef skirt steak, Cantinero lets you indulge in the delights of Mexico without leaving the country.

The Shady Pig

From Birmingham to Canggu comes The Shady Pig, a charming hidden hangout in Bali with inspired by the glam and grit of a 1920s mob crew. There’s a quirky little no password, no entrance policy – so drop them a message on their Instagram (theshadypig) before heading down to get the special code for the night. It’s well worth the effort. The Shady Pig boasts that its bartenders “have thrown out the traditional rulebook, and replaced it with a creative, ‘anything goes’ experimental approach to cocktail-making” – and they’re right to be proud. The bar crafts its own spirits, tinctures, syrups, mixers and garnishes, using experimental techniques such as barrel-aging and milk-washing. Sounds complicated? Don’t worry. Once you’ve finally been let in, just sit back, relax and enjoy the quality drinks.

H Club

Size matters? Well, then this is the place for you. This Jakarta nightclub – which can fit up to about 2,000 people - prides itself on being the biggest nightclub not just in the city, but in Asia. It’s a spectacular affair, with famous singers and DJs from around dropping in for performances; an electrifying arsenal of special effects that includes fire, smoke, laser and lights; and even a selection of arcade games to geek out over together. And if all this isn’t luxurious enough for you, you can opt for VIP treatment and be pampered from start to finish by your own H Club hospitality team.
